The EAMES DSR is a shell chair with a one-piece plastic shell in sea blue and a wire frame in black metal. The shell is organically shaped, rises toward the back and has no armrests. The frame consists of thin metal struts that branch out in a star shape from four base feet toward the underside of the shell, where they converge at a central hub. Small plastic glides are fitted to the feet.
The seat shell measures 46 × 55 cm, providing enough room for extended sitting. The seat height is within the usual range for conference and event chairs and matches standard tables 72 to 76 cm high. The backward-rising shape supports the back without a separate backrest.
The wire frame is both light and stable. The star-shaped construction distributes weight evenly across four points and ensures a secure base. The chairs can be stacked, which simplifies transport and storage for larger quantities. The plastic shell is smooth and can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
